Bonita Kwok Hei

Head of Laboratory, Gübelin Gem Lab

Gemstone Rating System for End Users

Date: 17 / 09 / 2022
Time: 16:00 — 17:00

The Gübelin Gemstone Rating System is a common language between the trade and end users to describe the quality, rarity and salience of a specific gemstone and translates these attributes into a simple number: the Gübelin Points. It gives meaningful orientation for privates and for professionals who wish to get a comprehensive ranking for their gemstones, in particular as the trade and the consumers become more digital and cannot physically see and touch them.
A gemmologist for more than 20 years, Bonita serves as Head of Laboratory at Gübelin Gem Lab. Prior to joining Gübelin, she was the Chief Gemmologist at Luk Fook Group and a gemmologist at the Hong Kong Gems Laboratory, where she worked with Prof. Mimi Ouyang for over 6 years. Bonita has done numerous volunteer work with government and industry associations, including serving as a member of the Task Force on Gemstone Testing in HKAS (Hong Kong Accreditation Service) and as a committee member of ITAC (Testing, Inspection and Certification Industry Training Advisory Committee), to name a few.
